Welcome to KICKOFF 2026!

The kickoff consists of a bunch of fun activities spread over three weeks at the start of the semester, where you'll get the chance to get to know your new classmates. The kickoff itself is free, BUT you are required to be a member of the student union (sign up under "Become a Member" here on the website).

Participation is of course voluntary, but we strongly recommend it – it's going to be so much fun! The kickoff is for all newly admitted students, everyone from international and Swedish students to master's students and independent course students.

Registration for the kickoff opens on August 1st!

Follow our social media to stay up to date with everything!

Checklist for new students

The checklist is long and contains several links, we recommend you use your computer.

1 / Accept your admission and apply for study grant.

If you have been accepted or received a reserve spot in the first selection round, you need to accept to secure your place. You can do this on antagning.se.

If you want to apply for student aid from CSN, you can do so on csn.se. Apply well in advance

2 / Registrer yourself i Ladok

As a new student you need to register yourself in Ladok. The Registration for the fall semester 2026 is open from 17th of August to the 23rd of August on student.ladok.se.

3 / Create a FHS-account

As a new student you will have to create an FHS - account, the information can be found on the website for the Swedish Defense University.

With your FHS account you will have access to the platform Canvas, your student e-mail and Office 365. Other services and information can be found on the studentportal.

4 / Get familiar with your schedule and the litterature for your course.

The Swedish Defence University uses the scheduling system TimeEdit. Before you've set up your FHS account, you can access a simplified schedule via this link.

Finding the right schedule can be a bit tricky, so use the course code you can find on Ladok. For example, if you're studying your first semester on the bachelor's programme, the course code for International Relations is 1SS079.

Once you've found your schedule, the next step is to find your course literature! The reading list is usually found at the bottom of the course syllabus or in a separate literature list. If you're studying one of the programmes, you'll find syllabuses and reading lists here, and if you're taking an independent course, you can search for your course here. A great tip is to look for course literature on the student union's book marketplace on Facebook!

5 / Get your access-card.

As a new student, you need to get an access card. You can pick up your access card at the reception at Drottning Kristinas väg 37 from the first day of the semester onwards. However, you can also pick up your access card at any time during the semester.

Please note that the Swedish Defence University is a protected facility. Visitors are welcome in the open areas of the Swedish Defence University (the entrance, the Propeller, and the Anna Lindh Library) between 09:00 and 17:00 on weekdays. Bringing visitors into the restricted areas constitutes a violation of the Protective Security Act, punishable by fines or imprisonment for up to two years.

6 / Find a place to live.

The housing situation in Stockholm is challenging, but we from the student union would like to take this opportunity to give you some tips on finding your future home!

As a member of the student union, you can get housing through SSSB, which is owned by the Stockholm student unions – register via sssb.se! SSSB offers both corridor housing and independent apartments in the inner city and nearby suburbs. We recommend registering in SSSB's housing queue as soon as possible. You can accumulate up to 90 days before you need to become a union member!

Akademisk Kvart is run by the Stockholm student unions and is a notice board specifically designed for students.

Blocket Bostad and kvalster.se have thousands of listings at varying price ranges.

There are several landlords in Stockholm offering housing. Bostadsförmedlingen offers both student housing and regular ongoing contracts from around Stockholm County – be sure to join their queue as soon as possible!

Ask around during the kickoff! Some students may have room for a lodger or be interested in sharing an apartment!

Stockholm is big and offers fantastic possibilities for getting around! Don't feel limited to living in the inner city. The Swedish Defence University is located right next to Roslagsbanan, which opens up large parts of northeastern Stockholm County, the metro (Tunnelbanan), which reaches large parts of the nearby suburbs, and is close to the commuter train (Pendeltåget), which serves the whole of Stockholm County! A commute of 45-60 minutes is not unusual.

7 / Sign up for the kickoff and join the Facebook group.

The student union's kickoff is a highlight in many students' time at the Swedish Defence University! You'll get the chance to meet your future fellow students and get acquainted with the student culture at FHS.

The idea behind the kickoff is to introduce new students to the school and help everyone get to know each other, in order to uphold the strong sense of community that already exists – and it would be amazing if as many as possible want to take part!

8 / Become a member and get involved in the student union.

The student union is your opportunity to shape your own time as a student at the Swedish Defence University!

We organize formal dinners, trips, and exciting lectures that you'll remember for a long time to come!

The student union also works to make your education even better, offering you the opportunity to get involved in representing your fellow students in the university's various bodies.

As a member of the student union, you always get a discount on our events, and you gain access to student discounts and SSSB's housing queue! You can read more about membership and prices here.
